Admittedly, the cost of living in Oakland is not the lowest, however considering the other cities in the area, it may be the most affordable on your list of potential areas to move. San Francisco is by far the most expensive city to live in California, so if you’re moving to the region with the intention to be close to the Bay Area, Oakland may be a more affordable alternative. Oakland houses for sale are reasonably priced compared to others in the area, and apartments are more plentiful than the surrounding areas as well. While you may struggle to find a well-priced place, or a place at all, in downtown San Francisco, Oakland will more than likely have something that suits your needs and your budget.

Climate

Many people think of California as a whole as being sunny and warm, but the truth is, since the state is so large and stretches all the way up the coast, the climate can vary from area to area. While the southern areas are more warm and balmy all year long, the northern parts of the state get to enjoy some version of the four seasons without any of the extreme temperatures you’ll experience in other parts of the country. And, because you’re right along the water, there’s always a nice cool breeze to keep you from getting too warm in the summer months. 

Temperatures in Oakland usually range from the 40s on cold winter nights, to the mid-70s on warm summer days. If you’re looking for temperate weather all year long, Oakland is the perfect place for you.
